2A (900-1000 ft), Bikini Island (Miocene of Marshall Islands)

Where: Marshall Islands (11.6° N, 165.4° E: paleocoordinates 8.6° N, 171.6° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Late/Upper Miocene (11.6 - 5.3 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From an undifferentiated lithostratigraphic unit. AGE: Late Miocene, on the basis of foraminiferal biostratigraphy. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: A composite from several beds within the section of drill core of 900-1000 ft.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lagoonal or restricted shallow subtidal; unlithified, shelly/skeletal, brown mixed carbonate-siliciclastic sediments

• EMVIRONMENT: Probably accumulated in an open lagoon, shelf, or reef platform, rather than on a steep seaward slope of a reef.
• LITHOLOGY: Completely unconsolidated, unsorted, light to medium brown, fossiliferous detritus, containing abundant corals and mollusks. LITHIFICATION: Unlithified, on the basis facies description and figured specimens.

Size classes: macrofossils, microfossils

Preservation: original aragonite
