M1211 - Granville Portage section (Jurassic of the United States)

Also known as M1211

Where: Aleutians East County, Alaska (55.9° N, 159.6° W: paleocoordinates 40.0° N, 98.0° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Staniukovich Formation, Tithonian (152.1 - 145.0 Ma)

• Exposures here are not the most desirable, but are the best locally available for this part of the stratigraphic column. A full sequence of Staniukovich Formation appears to be present in the area and is overlain by the Coal Valley member of the Chignik Formation. The Staniukovich Formation is greater than 150 feet thick and comprises sandstones and siltstones. Portlandian age = Tithonian

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; brown sandstone and brown siltstone

• No paleoenvironmental data reported.
• Feldspathic sandstones and siltstones, weathering tan to buff.

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: quarrying,

• Collections examined by D. Jones (USGS), 1962. Collections are reposited at USGS Menlo Park, or presumably USNM (not reported)
