Chronister Site (Cretaceous to of the United States)

Where: Bollinger County, Missouri (37.3° N, 90.0° W: paleocoordinates 40.2° N, 59.7° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Late/Upper Santonian to Late/Upper Santonian (85.8 - 70.6 Ma)

• Has previously been assigned to the McNairy Sand, within the Ripley Formation, but this is uncertain, and most authors consider the bed to be an unnamed smectite clay unit overlapping in age with the Coffee Sand, Mooreville Chalk, and Blufftown formations, and local in extent.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: karst; poorly lithified, black, blue claystone

• clays in a filled sink into Ordovician rocks
• "clay, blue to black, very plastic"

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
