CSUN Loc. 1292 [Bateque Fm] (Eocene of Mexico)

Also known as Punta Ostra

Where: Baja California, Mexico (26.3° N, 112.5° W: paleocoordinates 26.8° N, 98.7° W)

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Bateque Formation, Lutetian (47.8 - 41.3 Ma)

• This collection is from section 3 of the author's four section division of the formation.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: transition zone or lower shoreface; poorly lithified, bioturbated, yellow sandstone

• Author says that the sediments were deposited in depths between normal storm wave base and maximum storm base. Thus, the paleoenvironment chosen was the transition zone, rather than offshore, as described by the author.
• 90 m thick offshore deposits...consisting mostly of bioturbated, yellow, fine-grained sandstone. there are some laminated beds, scattered shell fragments, some oblique burrows, and some low-angle discordances that extend laterally for several hundred meters and may be related to channelling.

Size class: macrofossils

Reposited in the LACM
