GSC C-118572, Twenty Mile Creek (Cretaceous of Canada)

Also known as MVA(F)85-165

Where: British Columbia, Canada (49.6° N, 121.9° W: paleocoordinates 47.9° N, 69.0° W)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Homolsomites packardi ammonoid zone, Brokenback Hill Formation, Early/Lower Hauterivian (136.4 - 130.0 Ma)

• Dark grey siltstone of the Brokenback Hill Formation. The Brokenback Hill Fm ranges from upper Valanginian to middle Albian in age. All colllections have relatively fine temporal resolution however due to ammonite biostratigraphy. SPECIFIC AGE DATA: Presumably from some part of the Homolsomites packardi zone and or early Hauterivian age in terms of international standard stages (see Imlay, 1960). The H. packardi zone is younger than the upper Valanginian Buchia crassicollis zone and older than the mid-Hauterivian Simbirskites (Hollisites) lucasi and Speentoniceras agnessense zone. (see Jeletzky and Tipper, 1968)

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore; lithified, gray siltstone

• Relatively deep water conditions, quiet water, soft substrate, some wave action, occasional ripple marks, fairly proximal volcanic source.
• SPECIFIC DATA: Dark grey siltstone; GENERAL INFORMATION: The Brokenback Fm is mainly green crystal tuff, volcanic conglomerate, and tuffaceous sandstone.

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: cast, mold/impression

Reposited in the GSC

Collection methods: surface (in situ),

• Collections made in 1985by A.J. Arthur and P.L. Smith; collections reposited in the GSC.
