• This formation was previously known as the Horton Creek member of the Hannibal Formation. Due to the existence of a paraconformity betweeen the Devonian-Mississippian contact, the exact stratigraphic position of these beds has been corrected several times since their first description in the early 1900's. Carter contains a complete description of the history of work done on these sections.
