Aitegou Section, Azigan Fm, Western Kunlun Mtns, NW China (Carboniferous of China)

Where: Xinjiang, China (38.3° N, 76.0° E: paleocoordinates 20.7° N, 59.1° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Azigan Formation, Moscovian (315.2 - 307.0 Ma)

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: open shallow subtidal; lithified limestone and lithified mudstone

• The entere interpreted packstone and sandstone as the primary and secondary lithologies, respectively, based on a drawn strat column. Niether the column nor the text indicates which lithologies the fossils were actually collected from.
• The Azigan Formation is composed of massive limestones interbedded with several interbeds of mudstones and sandstones. The lower part of the formation represented by the black mudstone, biolcastic grainstone and dolomitic limestone microfacies, indicating an environment near normal wave base; the upper part of teh formation is dominated by the bioclastic grainstones and packstones microfacies, produced at carbonate platform environment.
