NUL 811, Cobark Creek Section, Berrico Creek FM, New South Wales, Australia (Carboniferous of Australia)

Also known as University of Newcastle Collection 811

Where: New South Wales, Australia (31.9° S, 151.7° E: paleocoordinates 44.4° S, 152.8° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

When: Berrico Creek Formation, Visean (346.7 - 330.9 Ma)

Environment/lithology: foreshore; lithified, coarse-grained sandstone

• granualr, coarse grained, lithic sandstone. In thin section, the sandstones have phenoclasts composed chiefly of subangular to subrounded clear quartz and altered plagioclase, biotite, muscovite, calcite and lithic fragments (mainly volcanic rocks). Rounded to well rounded calcitit oolites nucleated on some of these phenoclasts are also present. The sandstones are cemented by calcite, iron-oxide and mica minerals and also have a fine matrix. They accumulated close to the shoreline under relatively high energy conditions.

Collection methods: All type and illustrated specimens (Rawdonia nasharae gen. et sp. nov.) are housed in the Department of Geology, University of Newcastle, N.S.W.
