Also known as Frederick Limestone - Loc. CCM/4 (of Rasetti, 1961), Willow Brook Quarry
Where: Frederick County, Virginia (39.4° N, 77.4° W: paleocoordinates 31.9° S, 80.3° W)
• coordinate based on nearby landmark
• outcrop-level geographic resolution
When: Dunderbergia trilobite zone, Frederick Limestone Formation, Dresbachian (497.0 - 485.4 Ma)
• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Frederick Lmst., which according to Stose and Stose underlies the similar Grove Lmst (partly or possibly all Canadian=Trenpealeauian in age). AGE: Dresbachian, Dunderbergia zone. Rasetti (1961) found faunal similarities with the Aphelapsis faunizone (Palmer 1954) of Texas and the Dunderbergia faunizone (Lochman and Wilson 1958) , Dunderberg Shale of Nevada and Jubilee Lmys of B.C. (Kobayashi 1938, Palmer 1960) on the basis of correlation of Dunderbergia. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From 6 ft thick limestone, overlying a 70 ft thick, locally outcroping limestone, and underlying a 35 ft limestone. Fossils collected from above 1 ft above base of unit.
• bed-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: lithified, fine-grained, flat-pebble, gray limestone
Size class: macrofossils
Preservation: cast, mold/impression
Reposited in the USNM
• COLLECTOR: F. Rasetti (presumably late 1950's). REPOSITORY: USNM
