• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Makatini Fm, which is regionally overlain by the Mzinene Fm. THICKNESS: From a 3 m thic bed within ~30 m section. AGE: Barremian 1 based on ammonite biostratigraphy (Acroceras zone). STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From siltstone very near the very base of the section, at base of river cliff.

Environment/lithology: marine; lithified, burrowed, brown, gray siltstone

• ENVIRONMENT: No detailed environmental data reported in text.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Grey-buff, burrowed silts with traces of cross-bedding, abundant molluscs. LITHIFICATION: Lithified, assumed on the basis of facies descriptions of adjacent beds, and figures from subsequent publications (e.g. Kennedy and Kinger 1977).
