Where: New Zealand (44.6° S, 171.0° E: paleocoordinates 52.0° S, 168.8° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Waikareka Volcanic Formation (Alma Group), Kaiatan (39.1 - 36.7 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From Waikareka Volcanic Formation, which is the basal unit of the Alma Group, which is overlain by the Totara Limestone (Runangan), and in turn is overlain locally by Deborah Volcanic Fm (Whaingaroan). AGE: Kaiatan of Gage (1957) = Early Priabonian. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Unknown position within formation.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore; poorly lithified, fine-grained, medium, calcareous tuff

• ENVIRONMENT: Buried by submarine basaltic eruption by explosively distributed agglomerate and tuff in comparitively deep water.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Tuff, fine to medium, calcified. LITHIFICATION: Poorly lithified, assumed, as no indication is given text of lithification state.

Size class: macrofossils
