Where: Nigeria (6.5° N, 7.5° E: paleocoordinates 7.4° S, 0.6° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Inoceramud costellatus inoceramid zone, Nkalagu Shale Formation, Middle Turonian (93.5 - 89.3 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From Nkalagu Shale, which has formely been subdivided into Eze-Aku (Coniacian) and Awgu (Turonian) Formations on the basis of faunal content. THICKNESS: From thin (decemeter) bed within 26 m thick section. AGE: upper Middle Turonian based on inoceramid biostratigraphy; Inoceramus costellatus zone. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From stage 9, near base of Nkalagu Shale.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: basinal (); lithified shale

• ENVIRONMENT: From bathyal settings with instable substrates and moderate current regimes.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Shales, sometimes silty shales, within shale dominated unit, which is sometimes intercalated by limestones and marls. LITHIFICATION: Lithified, based on observation of figures.
