Where: Japan (45.3° N, 141.0° E: paleocoordinates 46.1° N, 139.1° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Meshikuni Formation, Early/Lower Miocene (23.0 - 16.0 Ma)

THICKNESS: From bed of less than 10 m within an appoximately ~250 m thick composite (discontinous) section. AGE: Early Miocene on the basis of molluscan biostratigraphy. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From middle part of Meshikuni Fm.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: coastal; poorly lithified, coarse-grained, pebbly sandstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Shallow water, siliciclastic. TEMPERATURE: Cool-water.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Coarse grained-pebbly sandstone. LITHIFICATION: Poorly-lithified on the basis of figured specimens.
