• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From Meshikuni Fm, which unconformably overlies the Cretaceous Rebun Gp and is unconformably overlain by the Hamanaka Fm (?Middle Miocene). THICKNESS: Formation reaches thicknesses of ~250 m (composite section). AGE: Early Miocene on the basis of molluscan biostratigraphy. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From unknown part of Meshikuni Fm.

Environment/lithology: coastal; poorly lithified, coarse-grained sandstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Shallow water, siliciclastic. TEMPERATURE: Cool-water.
