Machigarskaya Suite - Schmidt Peninsula, Okha District, Sakhalin (Oligocene of Russian Federation)

Where: Russian Federation (54.2° N, 142.6° E: paleocoordinates 55.9° N, 139.5° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Machigarskaya Formation, Early/Lower Oligocene (33.9 - 28.4 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Machigarskaya suite of the "Machigar" horizon, which lies above Eocene coal-bearing layers (Late Miocene) and "Daekhuriin" horizons. THICKNESS: Total thickness of unit is 600 m. AGE: Early Pliocene, on the basis of classification into the "Machigar" horizon. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Composite checklist for upper part of the "formation" in this area.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: coastal; unlithified, argillaceous, silty, conglomeratic, calcareous, carbonaceous sandstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Not stated in text; assumed to be cool-water coastal setting on the basis of faunal composition.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Conglomeratic sandstone, with alternations of argillites with conglomerates, limey sandstones, with coal beds, and siltstones. LITHIFICATION: Poorly-lithified, assumed on the basis of age and facies.

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: COLLECTOR: Unknown, presumably Uwatoko (c. 1937). REPOSITORY: Unknown repository.
