• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Puerto Madryn Fm, which unconformably overlies the Gaiman Fm (Early Miocene). THICKNESS: From a 3 m thick bed within 44 m thick section. Formation reaches a maximum thickness of 150 m. AGE: Middle Miocene according to del Rio (1992) on the basis of generic affinities with Middle Miocene Caribbean faunas. Regarded as Late Miocene by del Rio (2004). STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From middle part of section.

Environment/lithology: coastal; unlithified, shelly/skeletal, gray, yellow, silty sandstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Shallow marine tidal and subtidal environment with frequent storm processes superimposed.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Massive, yellowish, grey silty to very fine-grained sandstones with a rich and well preserved bivalve fauna. LITHIFICATION: Unlithified based on figured specimens and facies description.
