Where: Kern County, California (35.5° N, 119.8° W: paleocoordinates 34.1° N, 111.6° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Wygal Sandstone Member (Temblor Formation), Late/Upper Oligocene (28.4 - 23.0 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From Wygal Sst Mbr which regionally overlies the Cymric Shale and is overlain by the Santos Shale of the lower (type) Temblor Fm (Late Oligocene-Middle Miocene). THICKNESS: From bed of unknown thickness within member that ranges between 20 and 40 ft in thickness. AGE: Late Oligocene; lower Zemorian foraminiferal staghe, Blakeley molluscan stage. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Collection from about 10-30 ft above the base.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: transition zone or lower shoreface; lithified, shelly/skeletal sandstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Warm, shallow-water depositional environment - less than 20 fathoms and possibly much shallower.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Fossiliferous sandstone. LITHIFICATION: Lithified based on figured specimens.
