Loc. 1 [Ishiizawa Fm] (Miocene of Japan)

Where: Japan (42.9° N, 143.8° E: paleocoordinates 43.4° N, 142.2° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Ishiizawa Formation, Middle Miocene (16.0 - 11.6 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From Ishiizawa Fm, which unconformably overlies the Tokomuro Fm (Middle Miocene). AGE: Middle Miocene on the basis of molluscan biostratigraphy. Approximately correlated with the lower part of the Togeshita Formation. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From unknown position in regional section.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

• ENVIRONMENT: Coastal marine, siliciclastic environment.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Unknown, but certainly siliciclastic. LITHIFICATION: Poorly-lithifed on the basis of figured specimens.
