Quarry N of Vitigliano [Cesarea Limestone (Cretaceous of Italy)

Where: Italy (40.1° N, 18.4° E: paleocoordinates 24.9° N, 17.7° E)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Nostoceras hyatti ammonoid zone, Cesarea Limestone Formation, Late/Upper Campanian (83.5 - 70.6 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: Possibly from the Cesarea Limestone, which regionally unconformably overlies the Melissano Limestone (Conianceian-Santonian) and is overlain by the Ciolo Limestone (Late Campanian-Maastrictian). AGE: early Late Campanian, on the basis of Sr dating. Table 1 states ages of 76.6 Ma. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From unknown position in section.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lithified, shelly/skeletal limestone

• ENVIRONMENT: Shallow marine carbonate setting.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Bioclastic-rich limestone. LITHIFICATION: Lithified, on the basis of facies description and figured specimens.

Size class: macrofossils
