B1, Skeete’s Bay, Whitehaven (Pleistocene of Barbados)

Where: Barbados (13.2° N, 59.5° W: paleocoordinates 13.2° N, 59.5° W)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Middle Coral Rock Formation, Middle Pleistocene (0.8 - 0.1 Ma)

• Basal Middle Coral Rock (484,000-127,000 years old; Poole & Barker, 1983) that rests unconformably on the Tertiary Oceanic Group; the basal position suggests a mid Pleistocene age.

Environment/lithology: deep subtidal shelf; lithified limestone

• Donovan (2000): "The associated fauna includes benthic foraminifers, bryozoans, terebratulid brachiopods which suggests deposition in 100+ m water depth; (Harper and Donovan, 1998), benthic molluscs(Trechmann, 1937), astropectinid asteroid marginal ossicles, the boring Entobia isp. in some molluscs, and rarer pteropods, crab claws, and arcoscalpellid barnacle plates... interpreted as a deeper water (perhaps ±100 m) fore-reef deposit."

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: collected in August 1997 and June 2002,from well-lithified float blocks on the beach and also from the lowermost 2 m of the section
