• It is not clear what "Beloit member of the Platteville formation" (Flower, 1952) means at all. A Beloit Formation was named by Sardeson but was widely ignored by stratigraphers. Instead the name "Platteville Formation", which was coined later for the same beds, became widely used. (informations are from Weiss, 1957, GSA Bull. 68(8)). So it seems Beloit and Platteville are synonymous but not subordinate/superordinate to each other. PJW: This is the Quimbys Mill formation.
