Environment/lithology: marginal marine; sandstone and volcaniclastic

• The presence of coarse clastics suggests that the deposits represent a nearshore environment. According to Draut et al. (2004) the entire Murrisk Group is a series deposited in a post collisional (Grampian Orogeny) foreland basin.
• "The Llanvirn Mweelrea Formation, at the top of the Murrisk Group, is dominated by quartz sandstones but contains ignimbrites." (Draut et al., 2004)
