Where: Ventura County, California (34.4° N, 119.0° W: paleocoordinates 34.0° N, 116.4° W)
• coordinate based on nearby landmark
• outcrop-level geographic resolution
When: Santa Margarita Formation, Late/Upper Miocene (11.6 - 5.3 Ma)
• LITHOSTRATIGRAPHY: From the Santa Margarita Fm, which overlies the Monterey Fm (Middle-Late Miocene). AGE: Late Miocene, on the basis of macrofossil and microfossil biostratigraphy. STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the White Member (a) of unit 6 (Santa Margarita Fm), a 200-300 ft thick sandstone that unconformably overlie the Monterey Fm and is overlain by the "phosphatic member".
• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: coastal; white sandstone and brown siltstone
Size class: macrofossils
Collected by Dickinson in 1963-1964; reposited in the CAS
Collection methods: surface (in situ),
• COLLECTOR: W.R. Dickinson, 1963-1964. REPOSITORY: Formerly Stanford University, probably now at CAS.
