Where: England, United Kingdom (51.9° N, 2.2° W: paleocoordinates 36.5° N, 0.9° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Avicula contorta other zone, Westbury Formation (Penarth Group), Rhaetian (208.5 - 201.3 Ma)

• "Lower Lias"

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; claystone and micaceous, pyritic, white sandstone

• "The bone-bed, No. 12, rarely exceeds one inch in thickness, and frequently thins out to less than a quarter of an inch. It consists in some places chiefly of scales, teeth and bones of small fishes, and small coprolites cemented by iron pyrites, but in others the organic remains are rare, and are replaced by a whitish micaceous sandstone."
