Ebrach, bed number 13 (Triassic of Germany)

Where: Bayern, Germany (49.8° N, 10.5° E: paleocoordinates 22.3° N, 15.3° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Blasensandstein Member (Hassberge Formation), Carnian (237.0 - 228.0 Ma)

• Bed 13 within the Ebrach quarry (see Kuhn 1936:93), 2.1 m thickness; Blasensandstein locally overlies the Lehrbergschichten and underlies the Coburger Sandstein and is laterally equivalent to the Kieselsandstein of Baden-Württemberg which is now the lower Hassberge Formation, Middle Keuper Subgroup, and is considered late Carnian in age (see Deutsche Stratigraphische Kommission 2005: Cour. Forsch.-Inst. Senckenberg 253:1-296).

•Hunt & Lucas (1991) referred this locality to their "Paleorhinus biochron" and it was subsequently incorporated into the Otischalkian LVF.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lacustrine; lithified, quartzose, green, white, conglomeratic sandstone

• "playa lake deposits" (Deutsche Stratigraphische Kommission 2005: Cour. Forsch.-Inst. Senckenberg 253:1-296).
