Where: Sweden (58.6° N, 13.4° E: paleocoordinates 40.9° S, 19.4° W)

When: Olenus gibbosus trilobite zone, Maentwrogian (497.0 - 496.8 Ma)

Environment/lithology: lithified, black, gray limestone

• anthraconitic, black or grey with whitish bands, abundantly fossiliferous limestone called orsten occurring primarily as lenses or less frequently intercalated in black shales.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Preservation: replaced with phosphate

Collection methods: Rocks are too coarse to preserve large macrofossils (diagentically destroyed).
