Sister taxa: Marinurnula bajkurica, Marinurnula chivatschense, Marinurnula mantuanensis, Marinurnula prima, Marinurnula timanicum

Type specimen: NZGS BR 900. Its type locality is GS4651, Deep Creek (G45/f8592), which is in a Wuchiapingian marine horizon in the AG4 Formation of New Zealand.
