Type specimens:

  • Sclerosaurus armatus: a specimen in the collections of the Geologisches Institut of the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, a partial skeleton (postcrania only). Its type locality is Warmbach near Rheinfelden, which is in an Aegean/Bithynian fluvial-lacustrine mudstone in the Plattensandstein/Rötton Formation of Germany.
  • Labyrinthodon ruetimeyeri: NMB Bs.28, a skeleton (nearly complete). Its type locality is Riehen, Wiedersheim 1878, which is in an Aegean/Bithynian terrestrial sandstone in the ? Plattensandstein Formation of Switzerland.
