Sister taxa: Trachyteuthis bacchiai, Trachyteuthis hastiformis
Type specimen: M.C.Z. 5027, a shell. Its type locality is Jagua Vieja, which is in an Oxfordian marine horizon in the Jagua Formation of Cuba.
Ecology: fast-moving nektobenthic carnivore
Distribution: found only at Jagua Vieja
