Sister taxon: Semipetasus datianensis
Type specimen: USNM 118411. Its type locality is USNM703a, Old Word Ranch, Glass Mountains, which is in a Kungurian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Road Canyon Formation of Texas.
