Sister taxa: Simolestes keileni, Simolestes vorax

Type specimen: SPecimen in the Indian Museum of Calcutta (cast BMNH R.1401), a mandible (symphysial portion of a mandible). Its type locality is Bururia, Kutch, which is in a Tithonian marine horizon in the Umia Formation of India.
