Sister taxon: Mesorthopteron similis
Type specimen: GSQI5, a tegmen (fragment). Its type locality is Denmark Hill Insect Bed (Dunstan 1909 collection), which is in a Norian pond siltstone in the Blackstone Formation of Australia.
