Sister taxa: Phymatodes grandaevus, Phymatodes miocenicus

Type specimen: AMNH Fl 18921, an exoskeleton (body with wings & elytra open). Its type locality is Florissant, Station 14, which is in a Chadronian lacustrine - large shale in the Florissant Formation of Colorado.

Ecology:

Distribution: found only at Florissant, Station 14
