Sister taxa: Heliospongia excavata, Heliospongia finksi, Heliospongia houchangensis, Heliospongia vokesi
Type specimen: Its type locality is USNM705k, Leonard Mountain, Glass Mountains, which is in an Artinskian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Lenox Hills Formation of Texas
Ecology: stationary intermediate-level epifaunal suspension feeder
Distribution:
• Permian of Italy (1 collection), United States (8: New Mexico, Texas)
