Sister taxon: Hexagenites cellulosus

Type specimen: MCZ 6277, a wing (fragment of a wing). Its type locality is Solnhofen (BMNH collection), which is in a Tithonian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Solnhofen Formation of Germany.

Distribution: found only at Solnhofen (BMNH collection)
