Type specimens:

  • Thescelus insiliens: AMNH 1108, a shell (an almost complete shell). Its type locality is Seven Mile Creek (AMNH), which is in a Lancian terrestrial horizon in the Lance Formation of Wyoming.
  • Baena longicauda: CMN 8678, a set of postcrania (a partial shell with limb material and caudal vertebrae). Its type locality is Morgan Creek (Rocky Creek), which is in a Lancian terrestrial horizon in the Frenchman Formation of Canada.
