Belongs to Kawhiarhynchia according to D. A. B. MacFarlan 1992
Sister taxon: Kawhiarhynchia waiohipaensis
Type specimen: BMNH B 48949, a shell. Its type locality is Ohineruru Bay, Totara Peninsula, Kawhia (R15/f8027), which is in an Oxfordian marine sandstone in New Zealand.
