Sister taxa: Vandaites newyorkensis, Vandaites stuerzenbaumi

Type specimen: GSC 7813. Its type locality is GSC 13703, Cowichan Lake, Vancouver Island, which is in a Rhaetian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Sutton Formation of Canada.
