Sister taxa: Basilemys imbricaria, Basilemys morrinensis, Basilemys nobilis, Basilemys praeclara, Basilemys sinuosa, Basilemys variolosa

Type specimen: USNM 11084 (nearly complete carapace and plastron). Its type locality is 2 Miles Above Hunter's Store, which is in a Campanian terrestrial horizon in the Kirtland Formation of New Mexico.

Ecology: aquatic omnivore
