Type specimens:

• Trionyx austerus: AMNH 6068, a partial shell (the nuchal except the central portion, part of both first costals, the greater part of a right posterior costal, probably the sixth, various fragments of costal). Its type locality is west of Chaco Canyon, Ojo Alamo (AMNH), which is in a Campanian terrestrial shale/sandstone in the Kirtland Formation of New Mexico.
• Aspideretes fontanus: AMNH 6070, a partial shell (nearly the whole of the right half of the nuchal and a considerable part of the right first costal). Its type locality is west of Chaco Canyon, Ojo Alamo (AMNH), which is in a Campanian terrestrial shale/sandstone in the Kirtland Formation of New Mexico.
• Aspideretes vorax: AMNH 6140, an osteoderm (nuchal bone). Its type locality is west of Chaco Canyon, Ojo Alamo (AMNH), which is in a Campanian terrestrial shale/sandstone in the Kirtland Formation of New Mexico.
