Belongs to Phiomys according to Osborn 1908
Sister taxa: Phiomys bowni, Phiomys hammudai
Type specimen: AMNH 13275, a mandible. Its type locality is Quarry A-1 (Jebel Qatrani Formation), which is in a Rupelian fluvial sandstone/mudstone in the Jebel Qatrani Formation of Egypt.
Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore
Distribution:
• Miocene of Kenya (1 collection)
• Oligocene of Egypt (4), Libya (1), Oman (2)
Total: 8 collections each including a single occurrence
