Sister taxa: Protoheterastrea leonhardi, Protoheterastrea minor, Protoheterastrea pseudocolumellaris, Protoheterastrea trnovensis
Type specimen: GK.F348. Its type locality is Ko.325, Kuma River, which is in a Carnian reef, buildup or bioherm reef rocks in the Oshe Formation of Japan.

• Triassic of Japan (2 collections), the Russian Federation (1)
