Type specimens:

  • Hypsosteiromys nectus: MACN A 52-172, a mandible (dext. with d4-m2).
  • Steiromys tabulatus: MACN A 52-172, a mandible (fragment of left ramus with p4-m3). Its type locality is Gran Barranca - southern cliff of lake Colhué Huapí, which is in a Colhuehuapian terrestrial horizon in the Sarmiento Formation of Argentina.

Ecology: arboreal herbivore

Distribution: found only at Gran Barranca - southern cliff of lake Colhué Huapí (Miocene of Argentina)
