Type specimens:

  • Sauropleura scalaris: NMP M458, a partial skeleton. Its type locality is Nyrany, which is in a Westphalian D lacustrine coal in the Kladno Formation of the Czech Republic.
  • Ptyonius bendai: CGH (unnumbered) (skull and partial skeleton). Its type locality is Kostalov, near Trutnov, which is in an Asselian terrestrial horizon in the Lower Rotliegendes Formation of the Czech Republic.
  • Ptyonius distinctus: CGH 3010, a skeleton. Its type locality is Nyrany, which is in a Westphalian D lacustrine coal in the Kladno Formation of the Czech Republic.
