Belongs to Branchiosaurus according to Romer 1939
Sister taxa: Branchiosaurus commentryensis, Branchiosaurus salamandroides
Type specimen: MCZ 1265, a skull. Its type locality is Montrose, which is in a Pennsylvanian terrestrial shale in the Conemaugh Formation of Pennsylvania.
Ecology: amphibious carnivore
Distribution: found only at Montrose
