Sister taxa: Apateon caducus, Apateon dracyi, Apateon flagrifer, Apateon intermedius, Apateon kontheri, Apateon pedestris, Apateon umbrosus, Salamandrella keyseringli
Type specimen: SCD-S756/759, a partial skeleton (complete large skull and anterior postcranial skeleton). Its type locality is Niederhaslich, which is in a Sakmarian lacustrine limestone in the Niederhäslich-Schweinsdorf Formation of Germany.
