Sister taxon: Iberolophus arabensis

Type specimen: US 11800, a mandible (right hemimandible, exhibiting p1 and m1 alveoli, and the p2–p4 and m2–m3 series). Its type locality is Mazaterón, which is in a Bartonian lacustrine marl/sandstone in the Mazaterón Formation of Spain.

Ecology: ground dwelling frugivore-folivore

Distribution: found only at Mazaterón
