Sister taxa: Manouria emys, Manouria impressa, Manouria yushensis
Type specimen: ESK-6150, a partial skeleton (skull, mandible, partial shell and some limb bones). Its type locality is Kamikurukubaru fissure, which is in a Pleistocene fissure fill travertine in the Naha Formation of Japan.
