Type specimens:
- Torosaurus latus: YPM 1830, a skull. Its type locality is north side, Lightning Creek, which is in a Maastrichtian terrestrial sandstone in the Lance Formation of Wyoming.
- Torosaurus gladius: Its type locality is divide between Cow Creek and Lightning Creek, which is in a Maastrichtian terrestrial shale in the Lance Formation of Wyoming.
Distribution:
• Cretaceous of Canada (2: Alberta, Saskatchewan collections), United States (5: Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming)
Total: 7 collections each including a single occurrence
