Type specimen: FMNH PF 12323, a skull ((head with scales of anterior-most ventral side, with counterparts of dorsal and ventral side of head). Its type locality is Vinton Quarry, which is in a Givetian/Givetian marine horizon in the Little Cedar Formation of Iowa.
